On January 25th at approximately 7:15 am, the Chilliwack Fire Department was alerted to a report of a structure fire in the 7300 block of Ramsay Place. Fire crews from Halls 1, 2, 4 and 6 responded to the scene and upon arrival discovered a detached outbuilding with moderate smoke showing from the eaves of the structure.

The outbuilding is believed to have contained a marijuana grow operation and in the interest of firefighter safety, crews did not enter the building and undertook a defensive stance on the fire. An excavator was later called in by fire crews to demolish a portion of the outbuilding so firefighters could safely access the seat of the fire and extinguish it.

The cause of this fire is under investigation by fire department officials and no firefighter or civilian injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
