The month of January looks promising for the Fraser Valley Minor Midget Thunderbirds as they continue to find success in the BC Hockey League. Chilliwack players continue to contribute to the Thunderbirds dominance as the team continues to reign in first place in the minor midget league.
The Thunderbirds were on the road this past weekend for a 3 game series against the Vancouver North West Hawks.
The Tbirds won all 3 games against the struggling last place Hawks. Friday’s game at the Karen Magnusson Arena saw 3 Chilliwack players contributing to the Tbird win. Dylan Brooks racked up 2 points as he assisted on goals and Clay Kurtz got 1 point on an assist. Lucas Bourdon had 1 point with the only goal in the third period to help give the Thunderbirds a 5-1 win.
Saturday’s game at the North Vancouver Canlan Ice Sports was a 4-1 win with a goal by Luke Wismer(3-9-12) in the third period with both Kurtz and Bourdon getting an assist on his goal. Lucas Bourdon also had a point for an assist in the second period of the game.
The final game played at the Hawks home ice, the North Shore Winter Club saw a goal by Lucas Bourdon in the first period with an assist by Clay Kurtz and both Bourdon(4-7-11) and Kurtz(9-11-20) each scored an unassisted goal in the second period.
Dylan Brooks(2-15-17) was credited with an assist in the third period to give the Thunderbirds a 5-2 win. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds(21-16-4-1-0) are now 4 points ahead of the second play Okanagan Rockets. The Thunderbirds will be playing a 3 game home series against the visiting Cariboo Cougars, January 25, 26, 27.
