Chilliwack Community Services today announced its plans to build and operate The Paramount Project, which will include 44 units of housing for seniors over the age of 55, and provide program space for Chilliwack Community Services and potentially other service providers.  Paul Donaldson, Chair of the Board of Directors stated, “The Paramount Project represents our commitment to housing for seniors and to bringing together our operations to meet the needs of Chilliwack.  Chilliwack has grown substantially and its needs have grown and changed as well.  We are committed to meeting those needs and building on our more than 90 years of community service.”

The proposed location is 46183 and 46187 Yale Road.  The City of Chilliwack owns these properties and as indicated through a press release on July 19, 2018, will review a rezoning application, which will be brought to City Council on August 7, 2018 and begin a process including community consultations and public hearings.

Chilliwack Community Services is preparing a proposal in response to a B.C. Housing Request for Proposals (RFP) (released this spring) for new rental housing units under the Building BC Community Housing Fund which will be submitted mid September. The Paramount Project units are intended to be rental housing units for independent seniors, with rents affordable for a range of low and moderate-income levels. If Chilliwack Community Services Paramount Project proposal is successful with BC Housing, the City of Chilliwack will provide the two properties on Yale Road in support of the project.

Chilliwack Community Services has taken the last couple of years to review the housing needs of Chilliwack. In looking at numerous city, provincial and federal sources, CCS identified affordable seniors housing as a significant need.  The project will also enable CCS to bring together services provided at three of its sites. Finally, the project will contribute to the revitalization of the downtown in keeping with the plans of the City of Chilliwack.

Chilliwack Community Services has been committed to meeting the needs of Chilliwack residents for 90 years and already works extensively in the area of housing provision through the Village Project, providing 33 housing units for youth and those with mental health needs. The Village has successfully operated since 2009 and is a BC Housing project. In addition, CCS has provided services to seniors for many years including Community Drivers, Meals on Wheels and Better at Home programs.  This is another building block in CCS’ commitment to Chilliwack seniors. CCS provides services to more than 6,200 people every year including children, youth, families, immigrants, seniors and those looking for work.

As part of Chilliwack Community Services commitment to the community and the rezoning process, we invite the public to:
