On July 22nd at approximately 8:00 pm, the Chilliwack Fire Department was alerted to a report of a structure fire in the 45000 block of Wells Rd. Fire crews from Halls 1, 4 and 6 responded to the scene and upon arrival discovered heavy smoke and flames showing from a two-bay, shop-style outbuilding.

Crews established a water supply and quickly brought the fire under control utilizing a defensive attack. Crews were able to prevent the spread of the fire to the neighbouring home, however the shop sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

It was an extremely difficult job for fire crews who were not only dealing with the fire but also with the heat of the day. The CFD’s Firefighter Rehabilitation Unit responded to the   to provide cooling fans and cold drinking water to reduce the effects of heat-related fatigue on fire crews.

The cause of this fire is currently under investigation by fire department officials.
