On May 08, 2018 at approximately 03:30am the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a
reported structure fire, located in a single family residential home in the 46000 block of Brooks
Ave.

Occupants were home and asleep at the time of the fire, one of the occupants woke up and
discovered the fire, then alerted the others. A couple of occupants made it out of the home
through the front door before the exit route was compromised by fire. The remaining occupants
retreated back into the structure and exited through a first floor window.

Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 4, and 6, and on arrival, reported seeing heavy fire and
smoke in the carport and basement area of the house. Fire crews setup defensive attack to
quickly bring the fire under control. Crews then transitioned to an offensive attack to extinguish
the fire.

The home suffered major fire and smoke damage to the exterior and interior of the structure.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department.
Chilliwack Fire Dept. wants to remind the public:

  • That working smoke alarms provide early warning of fire, allowing occupants more
    time to escape.
  • To plan at least two ways out of your home, in case the primary route is cut off.
