On Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, just after midnight, Chilliwack RCMP responded to an initial report of a male with a knife in the area of Yale Road and Nowell Street in downtown Chilliwack. While still en route, officers were advised that a victim had been stabbed. A 34 year old male was taken to hospital for significant, but not life threatening injuries. Abbotsford Police stopped the suspect vehicle approximately a half hour later on an unrelated matter. The suspect, identified as 33 year old Robert Giesbrecht was subsequently arrested and appeared in Chilliwack Provincial Court this afternoon charged with Assault with a Weapon.

This is an excellent example of the seamless communication and co-operation which occurs across not only jurisdictions, but also police agencies, states S/Sgt. Steve Vrolyk of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment. We would like to extend our thanks to the Abbotsford Police Department for their ongoing assistance.

The Chilliwack RCMP are seeking any further witnesses or anyone with information about this incident. Please contact the Chilliwack RCMP at (604)792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
