Chilliwack RCMP are seeking suspects after courthouse evacuated.

Chilliwack:  At approximately 2:30 pm on Tuesday, February 27th, the Chilliwack RCMP received a report of an unspecified threat at the Chilliwack Court House, located at 46085 Yale Road.  Police attended, and working with B.C. Sheriff’s Department, evacuated the court house.

A suspicious item was located outside the courthouse after an initial sweep of the area.  Chilliwack RCMP and Sheriffs secured the area and evacuated a number of neighbouring businesses to await the arrival of the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU).

EDU determined the item was not a risk to public safety.  The businesses and courthouse have now returned to regular business.

Follow up investigation into the source of the threat is being done by the Chilliwack RCMP with assistance from the RCMP Lower Mainland Forensic Identification Section.  Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying subjects associated to a vehicle of interest (photo below). The vehicle is described as an older model, bluish green, four-door sedan, with a sun roof.
