On September 3rd, 2017 at around 1:15pm the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 51000 block of Falls Court.

Firefighters responded from Halls 1, 2 and 4, and upon arrival, discovered smoke in the basement of a single family dwelling. Crews made entry to the structure and located a small fire contained to an electrical appliance. The fire was quickly extinguished and crews remained on scene to ventilate smoke from the structure. As a result of the fire, the home suffered some smoke damage and minor water damage. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature and is under investigation by fire officials.

The occupants of the home were away at the time of the fire and the home’s smoke alarms were credited with alerting nearby neighbours of the fire. The Chilliwack Fire Department wants to remind the public that working smoke alarms provide an early warning of a fire, giving people additional escape time. Test your smoke alarms once per month by pushing the test button.

The Chilliwack Fire Department also wants to remind the public to ensure that electrical circuits are not overloaded and to minimize or eliminate the use of extension cords and power bars wherever possible.
