(iPhones are suddenly on thieves most wanted list)
Chilliwack, B.C. - If you're in the market for a new cell phone, and someone offers you a brand new iPhone out of the back of their car, then RCMP want you to give them a call.
Chilliwack RCMP Staff Sergeant Marty Blais says thieves have been breaking into electronic stores lately and specifically stealing high end cell phones. Blais says they have all the serial numbers for the stolen phones, but the challenge now is to find out how the thieves plan to resell them. “Corporal (Kerry) Williams is doing research on this with our crime analysts to be able to see what they are planning to do once they are stolen and if there is a possibility of activation by bypassing the all the safety protocol that is involved with it.”
Blais says they investigate business robberies all the time. However normally thieves grab whatever they can and turn around and sell it. Lately it has been the high end cell phones from places like Future Shop, and everything else is left behind. So now Police have to figure out what they’re intentions are. Blais says the tough part about being a cop is that you have to work backwards from the crime scene and try and decipher the motives from there.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Crime Reduction Unit at 604 792 4611.
