Chilliwack, B.C. - The Sardis Secondary Senior Boys basketball team completed a successful weekend by being seeded # 12 out of 32 teams in the Fraser Valley Championships coming up this week. Sardis who had defeated # 15 provincially ranked Maple Ridge, lost in the semi-finals of the Fraser Valley East seeding tournament to Number 4 ranked Walnut Grove on Friday.
On Saturday night, Sardis with only 7 players competed hard and fell by 15 points 79 - 64 to Yale in the 3rd/4th game. The falcons were led by Hayden Lejeune with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Kroeker who stepped in to the starting point guard position and scored a season high 14 points after Grade 12 Logan Rogers sustained a season ending injury.
Logan’s leadership and productivity will be missed in the coming week but Sardis will rely on their Grade 10 and 11’s to step up and continue to gain experience in the tough valley championship.
Sardis plays Wednesday at 6:15 PM at Tamanawis Secondary in Surrey against Number 24 seeded Fleetwood Park. That game is a “ win or go home” game and if Sardis wins that game the field of 32 drops to 16 teams and continues with a double knock out format.
