Kelowna, B.C. – The weekend started with an overtime loss for the Chilliwack Chiefs.

It ended with an overtime win.

Malcolm Gould clinched the second point of the game when he forced a turnover inside the Warrior blueline, and fired a wristshot past Dwayne Rodrigue at the 1:01 mark of extra time for the winner. The tally was Gould’s second of the game. The North Van native tied the game at two on the powerplay early in the third period after the Warriors had potted two goals in the 2nd frame to take the lead.

The two goals for Gould were his 25th and 26th of the season. It caps an impressive week, as he has found the net six times in the last five games, and really provided an offensive spark at times.

Mitch Gillam was strong in goal for his 17th win of the year, stopping 35 shots. Special teams for the Chiefs were strong, going 2 for 3 on the powerplay, and forcing Westside to go 0 for 3 with the man advantage.

The two points are huge for Chilliwack, as they moved back into the fourth and final playoff spot in the Interior conference. Vernon trails by just a single point, but the Chiefs have a game in hand on the Vipers, and have won the season series with Vernon as well.

Matthieu Tibbett and Jaret Babych were the other goal scorers for the Chiefs. Tibbett re-aggravated his knee injury in the second period and did not return. Garrett Forster tweaked a muscle in warmup, and only played one shift in the game, so the injury troubles continue for the Chiefs as they gear up for a road game in Salmon Arm on Wednesday.

Well it isn't going to get much closer for a RACE for that last playoff spot and a chance to meet Penticton in the first round.
I thought maybe Merritt might be catchable but they had a better weekend against us heads up and other wise and seem to be solid again.

BUt it's Jr. Hockey anything can happen.
Earlier in the season I thought that the Chiefs could finish higher in the standings. Although they have made a HUGE improvement after last year looks like it might be a first round visit with an incredible team. Will still be good for creating a team with experience and will give them lots to build on for next year!
