Abbotsford, B.C. - Last night, the first annual "Battle of the Valley" men's and women's basketball doubleheader at the AESC was a big success.

The crowd was 800 strong as the four teams played in  state of the art digs and the home of the AHL's Abbotsford Heat.

The Trinity Western Spartan women defeated the Cascades, 71-59 and the UFV men defeated Trinity Western, 88-72, in the first university basketball games ever played at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

The Cascades women were led by Aieisha Luyken and Chilliwack's Kayli Sartori, each with 11 points.

As for the men, Joel Friesen went game-high with 24 points.
