UFVRD:  RCMP remind everyone to protect property in your automobile from being stolen by keeping items out of sight and locking doors.

During the summer months the Upper Fraser Valley will experience an influx of seasonal visitors to the parks and sites of the region.  The arrival of tourists also presents greater opportunity for thieves to prey on vehicles parked in recreational and commercial parking lots.

RCMP officers remain vigilant while conducting patrols but prevention of theft requires the police and public working together.

“The theft of property from vehicles is a crime of opportunity that can be significantly reduced by owners practicing some crime prevention habits,” says Corporal Mike Rail spokesperson for the UFVRD.

Prevention tips include:

  • *Lock the doors when leaving your vehicle.
  • *Ensure all valuables in your parked vehicle are stored out of sight.
  • *Do not leave valuables in your vehicle overnight.

RCMP remind everyone who witnesses anything they believe to be suspicious in nature to contact their local police department or, should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
